Owner

Before settling on the career path of speech-language pathology, Stephanie did a bit of globe-trotting and farming. During this period, two of the areas she found most fascinating were how different communities communicated, and how they engaged with their food. With this life experience under her belt, she completed a Masters of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital - Institute of Health Professions. There, she specialized in medical speech-language pathology, and participated in clinical placements at Boston-area hospitals and schools. Throughout her studies and clinical experiences, she cultivated a passion for pediatrics and feeding therapy. Upon graduation, Stephanie completed her clinical fellowship at a pediatric private practice where she treated a myriad of disorders including childhood apraxia of speech, feeding disorders, fluency disorders, speech/language delays and autism spectrum disorders. As she became more familiar with the organization of private practices, she began to feel an itch to start a clinic of her own. Along the way, she became a mother to two young boys, which she firmly believes has given her an entirely new appreciation for the work of her clients and her clients’ care providers! Now that she has landed in her forever home state of Vermont, she is thrilled to offer services in the areas she has experienced to the local and not-so-local communities by way of telehealth. Her current mission is to inspire young hearts and minds to build upon existing skills that will help them engage with their world in meaningful ways.

Rebecca Vaughan, M.S., CCC-SLP (she/her)

Originally hailing from Cleveland, Ohio Rebecca “Becca” decided to move to Boston to start her journey to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. She completed a Masters of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital - Institute of Health Professions. That is also where her friendship and professional relationship began with Stephanie. While at IHP, she completed clinical placements at Boston Children’s Hospital, MGH, and Winthrop Public Schools. During her clinical experiences, she found a passion for working with the pediatric population. Becca completed her clinical fellowship at a pediatric private practice in NYC where she evaluated and treated individuals in the birth to 3 population, school-aged children, and adults with a variety of diagnoses. After she finished her clinical fellowship, Becca worked with adults with intellectual disabilities, specializing in augmentative and alternative communication, and provided home health services for children and young adults with disabilities and medically complex conditions. When Becca and her family relocated to SW Virginia, she continued to work with the pediatric population and mentored students. She is excited to be joining the Empower Therapy team and providing telehealth therapy.

Averee May, M.A., CCC-SLP (she/her)

Averee is a Speech-Language Pathologist originally from West Point, New York. She completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the State University of New York at Cortland. While most of her time was spent studying and preparing for graduate school, she also played collegiate softball. Averee then completed her Masters of Arts at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. During her clinical placements, she discovered a passion for early intervention and preschool services while working in a private practice preschool that supported the autistic community. She then completed half of her clinical fellowship at Bristol Elementary School and the local community via outreach services specializing in early language development. An opportunity presented itself for Averee to complete the second half of her clinical fellowship at a Subacute Rehabilitation Facility, where she discovered a passion for the geriatric population. After she finished her Clinical Fellowship, she continued to pursue work in subacute rehabilitation, where she specialized in performing swallow evaluations and providing education to families regarding ways to maximize their loved ones communication abilities, safety, independence, and quality of life. Averee is joining us at Empower Therapy to pursue her enthusiasm for shaping the lives of littles ones and their families, while she further develops her skills as an SLP. She is excited to continue chasing her dreams with the Empower Therapy team. In her free time she enjoys hiking, running and spending time with her two precious cats and dog.
